What happened?

I was hiking the “Larapinta Trail” which is 230.3 kilometres, along West Macdonnell ranges in Northern Territory, Australia.

I started my hike on 4th March 2013 and I was hiking alone. The track is fairly remote where you need to carry your food supply for 5 to 6 days at a time if you want to trek the whole trail. You need to carry at least 4 to 5 liters of water depending on the weather (how hot) and the distance to trek for the day.

During my hike the temperature was between mid to high 35 degrees celsius. On the morning of the 7th of March 2013, the fourth day into my hike I felt extremely exhausted, loss of appetite and I developed gastric problems. I was

14 kilometres away from the nearest water supply and had no phone reception.

Even then I continued to hike for another 2 kilometres. For the last 3 days I did not see any other hikers.

Thereafter I was suffering from possibly dehydration and serious exhaustion due to culmination of several factors. It was only then did I decide to activate “ACR ResQLink 406” personal locator beacon which I purchased from a supplier “Adventure Safety.com” Melbourne, Australia about 3 months ago.

I activated the beacon about 0826hrs and help arrived about 1045hrs. I was rescued by two people a park ranger and a helicopter pilot. These two people and the two police men, who helped in this ordeal were kind and caring.

Without the beacon, I probably would not be alive to tell this story.

I sincerely like to thank the employees of ACR for developing a great, efficient, small and lightweight personal locator beacon. This device certainly saved my life.

ResQLink+ Activated After a Slip From a Boulder

She came over to help me back to my tent where my PLB was. On the way there I briefly fainted from the pain, but luckily I was caught before falling down completely.
