What happened?

Hi my name is Vaughan Hill, I am a serviver of a shake attack in 1996 that left me missing 1 arm and limited use of my left arm. That has not stopped me getting out and doing the stuff I love.

So on the 28th March a mate and me set off for the Dart river from Timaru, to go on a hunting adventure, we spent 7 nights camping out, an awsome trip beautiful scenery, got to watch two young stags that still had some growing and developing to do, but amazing to watch them out in the wild an up on step rough country,

We had a night and day in the tent form raining hard, so some good yarns some good disagreements lol

On our last day 40 min from been out we had one little bluff to climb left, I was about half way up and momentarily losing balance, I reached out to grab a branch, (the bloody thing broke off) I went stright down, and with the weight of the back pack takeing over it sent me down faster falling 5 meters stright into a tree root on my left shoulder, on the way down I had plenty of time to think fuck this arnt going be good, I did think it was going to be more my head and face that was going to bite the dust first.

When opening my eyes was surprised that my face wasn’t all messed up, then I went to move an left arm, it wasn’t  at all that keen, was thinking it was like a dead arm, when my mate got to me and sat me up taking off back pack, after walking around for a bit trying to shake it off we decided to stay the night there an see how things were in the morning, so after a rat shit sleep the shoulder had blowen up so mate made the call to set off the Res Q Link Eprib, and with in the hour the Resque Otago helicopter  was there.

I ended up in Dundine hospital were I had surgery on left shoulder putting in 12 screws an a plate

Words of wisdom

Do not mess around if you hurt push the button

Thank you note

Take my hat off to you guys you do a very professional job and make a huge different thank you

Locator Beacon Used for Hiker Injury

We were traveling along the track down a steep slippery section when my feet went from under me, sending me sliding down and my foot impacted with a tree trunk causing a significant injury to my ankle. My ankle was completely broken, and my foot attached to my leg only by tissue.
