What happened?

ACR ResQLink View PLB: The Christmas present that saved my life!

On a ultra marathon training run with my sister at Cameron Track on January the 4th. I slipped on a wet rock and fell nearly 10 meters down a cliff.

It felt like it happened in slow motion, but there was absolutely no stopping it. There was nothing to grab onto or slow down with.

I can still vividly hear the sheer panic in my sisters voice as I free-fell down the cliff. In her words, “You were like a bag of potatoes”. Landing on a sharp rock before bouncing onto another… thinking this is how it all ends.

Luckily I had my ResQLink PLB; which my sister activated. I was airlifted off the side of the cliff to Dunedin Hospital where I remained for a week.

I was incredibly lucky to walk away from this and be able to tell the story… but if it wasn’t for the ACR PLB I might not be here writing this.

IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE THAT IS ADVENTUROUS THE BEST POSSIBLE GIFT YOU CAN GET THEM IS A PLB, they really do save lives!!!!

Hiker Rescued atop Ironbound Range after Unexpected Terrain Leads to Ankle Injury

Next morning when I got out of the tent I found that I could barely walk and it was at that point we set off the beacon. An hour later we heard the sound of the Westpac Helicopter and shortly after the search and rescue team had arrived. They assessed me and then we decided to hobble to the helicopter for a trip to the hospital.
