What happened?

I was invited by a new friend on a 30 mile offshore scuba dive trip.  He is older and I was not sure of many things, like his diving skills or health, if he had all the necessary marine and safety equipment on board or how mechanically sound his vessel was.  The weather was perfect for our trip and the diving went well.

On the return home the boat began experiencing multiple mechanical and electrical problems and eventually completely broke down.  A huge storm approached and the rain and waves flooded the boat and we began to sink.  After 4 hours communicating with the Coast Guard and waiting for assistance we lost radio contact, we were hopelessly adrift and the storm was sinking the vessel.

Running out of time, daylight and totally out of options, I activated my ResQLink View that I had purchased the night before.  The US Coast Guard found us within an hour and 30 minutes and rescued us from the sinking boat.  Without this device, we would’ve been floating in the Gulf of Mexico overnight waiting to be found.

Storm Overhead

This was a very scary and emotional situation since I couldn’t communicate with my wife and kids and I knew they were very worried and upset.  When I hit the button, I was comforted to know that instantly the rescue responders were aware of my location and immediately notified my wife that I had been located and help was on the way.

That peace of mind while still going through this horrific ordeal helped me overcome the challenges that still lay ahead to get out of that situation safely.  I couldn’t imagine floating all night in the cold and dark waters while my family was up worried sick about me. This device saved the day.

Through the Storm

Words of wisdom

You are responsible for your own personal safety and ultimate survival regardless of the situation or who is “in charge“, including the Captain of a boat.  You have a powerful tool available to get help for you and / or your loved ones when all other options have failed in case of a life endangering event.  You should carry this device with you.

Thank you note

When I finally got home and was laying in bed at 3:00 am, the thought occurred to me; that if I had not bought this device the night before, and activated it and it worked, I would still be floating in the cold and dark waters – scared, freezing and wondering when or if someone would find me.  My wife, daughters and other family members would be awake and very upset and worried about me rather than sleeping soundly.  This prevented all of that.  I am grateful that this product is available and affordable and I highly recommend it for everyone to have as a last resort when all other life saving options have been exhausted.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank You!

Drone Search Turns Dangerous: Stranded in Rugged Mountains, Dramatic PLB Rescue Ensues

I eventually found a valley that led to the coordinates but there was no obvious route down so it was necessary to explore and route find. Even the best routes down were perilous with numerous slopes of snow, dead ends, dry falls and eventually a dead end ledge overlooking a 100 ft. fall.

From Hike to Rescue Operation: Teacher's Preparedness and ResQLink PLB Saves the Day

One of the students held the PLB, and we communicated to check if the signal light was flashing. I placed emergency blankets over parent A and a couple of student jackets around him for support. I stayed with my arm supporting his neck, not moving him, suspecting he had broken his femur on one side and either his hip or femur on the other. Later, we found he had broken his femur and dislocated his hip on the opposite side.
