ACR Electronics is pleased to announce a new contract to supply the second-largest airline in Australia with the ARTEX ELT 5000 Distress Tracking (DT) with crash survivability.  The airline selected the fixed 406 MHz Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) for in-flight tracking and post-flight localization capabilities in a single crash-resistant unit. As the airline’s preferred solution, the ELT 5000 (DT) will enable compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) 2023 Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) initiative.

The agreement with Australia’s second-largest airline is the latest significant supply contract secured for the next generation ELT, developed by ARTEX to future proof aircraft with a state-of-the-art emergency distress signaling and tracking solution.  Following an agreement with The Boeing Company in 2021, the ELT will be offered on Boeing aircraft starting later this year.

Triggered by a potential distress condition from independent aircraft monitoring, the ARTEX ELT 5000 (DT) intelligently activates and will automatically begin transmitting 406 MHz distress messages with the current location in real time while the aircraft is in-flight. The distress tracking provides the precise location of the aircraft to assist the relevant monitoring bodies in order to respond to the alert quickly and effectively using the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite network.
