What I didn’t know at the time, was everything else going on in the background. 4 people playing cards get a call out, jump in the helicopter, save me and then back to playing cards. Not quite.

As the situation developed, two-way communication methods were attempted using mobile GPS or to place a phone call. Only to be met by the 'No Service' banner, scrolling across the phone screen.

I was able to maintain enough control to avoid ground obstacles including the hill, trees and powerlines, shut everything down, briefed my passenger and effected a forced and heavy landing into a paddock where the machine hit a banked area and rolled.
