Wat is er gebeurd?

On a Solo sail from the US to Scotland, about 350nm off the US coast, the hull was breached and the main hull of my trimaran was quickly flooded. I lost all electrical systems including the instruments, the navigation lights, the autopilot, the engine, and the VHF. Sailing back in such a state would have been extremely dangerous so I activated my arc EPIRB. A US coastguard plane was there a few hours later, and the next day a cargo ship rescued me.

Woorden van wijsheid

Having an EPIRB is literally life-saving. Don’t even think of going offshore without one. The other thing is to ensure you have a portable VHF radio with fresh batteries. Mine happened to have an old rechargeable battery that was not able to hold its charge for extended period of time. Thankfully it was enough to have initial contact with the coastguards so they could drop me another portable VHF unit.

dank u opmerking

I am really glad I had one of your EPIRB on board. It guaranteed my life and my safety. Even though I lost my boat, I am alive and well, which is really the only important thing. Thanks for making such a great product.
