Wat is er gebeurd?
There were 12 motorcyclists in our group as we left from Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort onto RT 28, also known as North Carolina Moonshine 28. It was a beautiful day for riding, with perfect weather and no worries. We snapped the picture at the Tail of the Dragon just two hours before the accident occurred.
One of the bikes, which was near the end of the group, went down on a sharp curve. The crash threw the passenger from the bike, and she slid across the road, clearly showing signs of severe pain.
We quickly assessed the situation and several of us tried to use our cell phones to call for help, but we had no signal. To make matters worse, none of us were familiar with the area, so we had no idea exactly where we were. Fortunately, I had a ResQLink VIEW PLB on my bike. I activated it and saw our coordinates, feeling relieved that the system sent out an alert for help.
Due to the remoteness of our location, it took about 30 to 45 minutes for the first responders and ambulance to arrive. Once they reached us, they quickly assessed the injured passenger’s condition and decided she needed to be airlifted to a trauma hospital. Thankfully, despite the severity of the situation, we learned that she would make a full recovery, which relieved us.
After the incident, there was a lot of talk among the group about ACR, and many riders began looking into getting one themselves for peace of mind and safety.
Thank you ACR
