My husband and three friends went offshore fishing; the weather was beautiful and the water was calm. Unfortunately the steering system broke not long after they arrived at their preferred spot 30 miles offshore with no mobile signal available. For over an hour, they worked to try and fix the steering system, to no avail. They knew that the only way to get out of this situation, was to activate the ResQLink PLB and wait for help.

I received a call from the Coast Guard, asking me to verify the ResQLink PLB signal and I also provided them with the boat’s model, size, and how many people that were aboard. I was extremely worried at the beginning, not knowing what was happening, if my husband or his friends were hurt, or worse. Throughout the hour, I received multiple follow ups from the Coast Guard on updates as the Rescue Mission progressed.

They sent both a helicopter and a tow boat to where the coordinates came from and were able to connect with my husband after about an hour. At this point, they reached out to me to confirm the rescue and explain that it was a mechanical issue and not a serious accident, which relieved me.

The helicopter was able to take off about 20 minutes after they arrived, which was really fast. My husband and his friends were towed by the Coast Guard back to the nearest Marina around 5 o’ clock that day, safe and sound.
