We had rain, winds, & low clouds early morning on the 31st of May. I went out of the hut in these wet & windy conditions and fell on the stairs, breaking 2 ribs, damaging my shoulder blade and rotator cuff

I don’t know what would’ve happened if she did not have the ACR ResQLink 400 beacon with her as she lives alone, and it would’ve been very late before anybody realized she hadn’t made it home.

Lost in a blizzard, battling hypothermia, and with their gear failing, the hikers' survival relied on the activation of their ACR PLB.

At this point, I should have stopped and reconsidered my options of turning back and going up Spaniard Spur but I foolishly carried on. I have done a lot of trail running, including many river crossings so I am comfortable and confident with them, but I think that this actually worked against me as my risk tolerance was set far too high given I had a much heavier pack on my back that day.

We were traveling along the track down a steep slippery section when my feet went from under me, sending me sliding down and my foot impacted with a tree trunk causing a significant injury to my ankle. My ankle was completely broken, and my foot attached to my leg only by tissue.
