Que s'est-il passé?
At around 14:30 hours on Wednesday 20 September 2017 a male member of our bushwalking group was involved in an accident at Heathy Hills Nature Reserve, near Elderslie Tasmania Australia. The accident – a seven metre fall off a rocky ledge – required urgent medical assistance, and occurred in a difficult, remote bushland area without mobile phone connection. The situation was assessed by the walking party and the Artex personal locator beacon was activated. Approximately 90 minutes later the walking party heard the rescue helicopter arrive overhead and met the crew on the grounding an open space nearby. From then on the trained personnel took over the accident scene. When Rod’s condition had been stabilised he was winched into the helicopter and dispatched to hospital. Rod is recovering slowly. Hopefully he may rejoin us in the not too distant future.
