After trying for 4 years we finally won a Wapiti (Elk) block to hunt in during the bugle. After a semi successful trip we were on our way out when i slid down a bank and broke my right ankle in three places. Due to the nature and terrain of the bush we were hunting in the only option was to set off my ResQLink to get an airlift out. The chopper was there in 1.5 hours and they winched me up and flew me to Invercargill Hospital. I required surgery which consisted of placing 3 plates with 8 screws to keep my ankle together.

Epilogue

Up until now I always thought that I would never require to use a PLB.  I bought one for this trip as the area we were going into is known for being rugged and dangerous so it pleased my wife that I had some sort of safety item to contact the outside world.  There is no mobile reception at all in this area.  I now realise that this ResQLink PLB was out of all my gear the best item to have.  I will now never go out into the outdoors without one.  It was such a basic accident that tuned into a nightmare due to location and without the ResQLink it would have been a horrible and painfull  trip out.  Thank you very much to ACR for creating such an awesome piece of kit!!  Thank you to Snow and Lloyd from Southern Lakes Helicopters Te Anau and thank you to Phillip from St John Paramedics for the awesome airlift and trip to Hospital.  Thank you to all of the Doctors, Surgeons, Nurses and Health Care Assistants who have helped with my recovery.  I am in a cast at the moment and cant wait to get back out there knowing that help is only a GPS Signal away.
