My wife and I were out fishing in the Gulf Of Mexico approximately 13 miles offshore with 2-3 foot seas. After a full day of fishing, it was time to pull up the anchor and head back to shore. I tried to bring the anchor up by using an anchor retrieval buoy. However, when an attempt was made to retrieve the anchor, it got snagged on the bottom. The main anchor line had become entangled around the propeller. An attempt was made to cut the line with a dull knife without any luck. Suddenly, the main cabin started to take on some water. We placed a call to Seatow for assistance with fowled Propeller, but they were unable to send a boat immediately. Nevertheless, I gave them our coordinates and mentioned that the boat was taking on water. Immediately afterwords, I grabbed the bilge pump and tried to pump out the cabin while my wife emptied water out of the bucket. Unfortunately this did not help and the cabin filled up with water steadily. I placed type one life vests on my wife and myself. We had noticed a fishing boat cruising about a half mile away, I fired 3 signal flares, but the boat kept moving offshore. I grabbed the marine radio microphone and called a mayday to the coast guard and gave our coordinates from the GPS. However, there was no response back to the distress call. Suddenly, the transom started to fill up with water, so I grabbed my ACR ResQlink + and placed in my front pocket. I went to the transom of the boat and helped my wife reposition the tailgate as it was floating upward, allowing water to flow in. We attempted to replace the tailgate, but water kept rising and it was not possible to keep it in place as it kept floating upward. I noticed the boat was starting to tilt to one side. I shouted to my wife to get out of the boat immediately. We both jumped out of the boat and swam away from the boat. About less than a minute later, the entire boat flipped over. I reached in my pocket for my ResQLink beacon, unfolded the antenna and held the button for one second. When the strobe light started to flash, I felt piece of mind and confidence that we were going to be rescued. We swam back to the capsized boat and waited there for about 45 minutes before the coast guard arrived. The coast guard boat came along side the boat and my wife swam toward their boat. The rescuers pulled my wife from the water and I soon followed her. One of the crew had said they were able to pick up our stress signal from the ResQLink + and they immediately departed from their home base. He turned off the ResQLink + and folded the antenna back into place. I was astonished to see him pull exactly the same ResQLink + model out of his pocket to show me. I felt I made a wise investment in this product and fortunately able to share my story. I could not fully express my gratitude to ACR for developing ResQLink, an exceptional product that saved our lives. thank you, Craig Stein
