    Medical Emergency

    What happened?

Two years prior while climbing, I fell 50 ft on a peak and was subsequently needed to be airlifted off the mountain by a US Army Blackhawk.  That experience taught me that a rescue can take a while. After that accident, my husband bought me the ACR ResQLink Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) the following Mothers Day, little did we know this gift would truly be a life saver!

After summiting Snowmass Peak, a Colorado 14er, I fell 10 feet on the decent around 13,000 ft and broke my ankle.  I knew I needed help and I immediately turned my ResQLink Beacon on.

After activating the PLB, I was able to crab walk for 3 hours to get myself to a lower elevation treeline where my climbing partner and I could start a fire if necessary to stay the night.   It was at that lower elevation where we heard the sound of an approaching helicopter.

Help had arrived, and we flagged down the chopper which would airlift me to the local hospital.
