ACR Electronics, Inc., the global leader in safety and survival technologies, along with Sea Tow International, remind boaters that Labor Day ends summer, but does not end boating safety efforts.
Sea Tow and ACR Electronics have partnered to further enhance Sea Tow’s radio check program by adding brief yet informative beacon safety messages such as: beacon owners please test your beacon every couple of months. Radio check messages will also soon be airing in Spanish. Sea Tow’s Automated Radio Check Service helps to ensure boaters’ VHF radios are functioning properly. In addition to an emergency beacon, a working VHF is one of the most important things to have on your boat as they are complementary boating safety necessities.
Sea Tow’s radio check program is provided as a FREE public service to boating communities nationwide. Their innovative Automated Radio Check Service reduces the volume of non-urgent communications traffic on VHF channel 16, the international hailing and distress channel, while still allowing boaters to perform the check to ensure that their radios are functioning properly.
Sea Tow’s radio check program is simple to use and here is some useful information on its functions:
- Automated Radio Check Service uses one of VHF Channels 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 or 84
- Simply tune your radio to the proper channel for your community.
- Conduct a radio check as you normally would.
- Upon releasing the mic, the system will replay your transmission, letting you hear how you sound.
- Use this link to search by zip code or city and state to find the Automated Radio Check Channel in your area: https://www.seatow.com/arc.
“Buying a beacon is one of the most responsible things a boater can do. Registering, maintaining and testing that beacon are just as important but often forgotten; so this partnership with Sea Tow is strategic in that beacon owners are going to be reminded at the perfect time and place to do all these things. As for those who don’t have a beacon and hear these messages we just hope that it will get them thinking twice about purchasing one”, shared Nichole Kali, Public Affairs and Media Manger for ACR.
