{"id":34079,"date":"2023-02-01T09:31:09","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T14:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.acrartex.com\/?post_type=survivor-stories&#038;p=34079"},"modified":"2025-05-22T08:01:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T13:01:35","slug":"marathon-running-accident-resqlink-view-plb","status":"publish","type":"survivor-stories","link":"https:\/\/www.acrartex.com\/de\/survivor-stories\/marathon-running-accident-resqlink-view-plb\/","title":{"rendered":"PLB Saved Marathon Runner from Deadly Fall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acrartex.com\/products\/resqlink-view\/\">ACR ResQLink View PLB<\/a>: The Christmas present that saved my life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a ultra marathon training run with my sister at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/otago\/places\/mount-aspiring-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/cameron-valley-track\/\">Cameron Track<\/a> on January the 4th. I slipped on a wet rock and fell nearly 10 meters down a cliff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It felt like it happened in slow motion, but there was absolutely no stopping it. There was nothing to grab onto or slow down with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can still vividly hear the sheer panic in my sister\u2019s voice as I free-fell down the cliff. I\u2019ll never forget her words: \u201cYou were like a bag of potatoes.\u201d It all happened so fast\u2014I landed hard on a sharp rock, then bounced onto another one, feeling the pain shoot through my body as I thought to myself, <em>This is how it all ends.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the chaos of the moment, I realized how fortunate I was to have my ResQLink PLB with me. My sister, still in a state of shock but quick to act, activated it. Within moments, help was on the way. A helicopter swooped in, airlifting me off the side of the cliff, and transported me to Dunedin Hospital. I spent a week there, recovering from the fall and reflecting on just how close I had come to disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel incredibly lucky to have walked away from that experience, to be able to tell my story, and to still be here writing this today. But deep down, I know that if it hadn\u2019t been for the ACR PLB, I might not be here at all.
