We are Lanny and Chris Ross. We owned a 2015 Grady-White, 300 Marlin, that we bought from and kept at Vero Marine Center, Vero Beach, Florida. Shortly after midnight July 24th, the morning of July 25, 2018 we received a phone call from friends of ours, who own a business adjacent to the Marina. They informed us there was a fire at the Marina in the vicinity of our slip, and that fire trucks and police were there. <\/p>\n
On our way to the Marina we received another call from the U. S. Coast Guard notifying us that our personal locator beacon had activated, sending out a signal. They were inquiring about our safety, wanting to know if we were in distress. Fortunately for us, we were not on the boat at that time, however we had just, four days prior, returned from twelve days of cruising in the Abacos. <\/p>\n
Needless to say, once we received the call from the Coast Guard, we were pretty certain our Grady-White was involved in the fire. <\/p>\n
Investigators and the insurance company ruled the origin of the fire to be electric and declared our boat a total loss.<\/p>\n
Although some systems on the boat failed, it was a relief and good news to know that the personal locator beacon had not failed and even with all the destruction the beacon had performed as promised and as promoted. As seen in the attached photos the beacon was totally destroyed in the fire. <\/p>\n
We have since acquired another Grady-White, 300 Marlin and are in the process of getting her properly equipped. For certain, the ACR 2884 AquaLink View Personal Locator Beacon is on our list of acquisitions. We purchased our original ACR 2884 from the Vero Marine Center in Vero Beach, Florida. <\/p>\n
